If “salt of the earth” could describe a performer and his music, there is perhaps no more apt phrase for CCM artist and worship leader, Jordan St.Cyr. A sincere, veracious talent with a gift for writing melodies to be visited over many years.
Jordan began his musical journey at the age of 14 writing poems and lyrics that longed to reveal the deeper things of life. Before he became a proficient instrumentalist, St.Cyr relied on the help of his father, Gerry St.Cyr, an established singer/songwriter in his own right, to create the musical landscape supporting his initial musical creations. In his teen years, Jordan honed his ability as a singer and guitar player in his home church where he led worship for his youth group and on Sunday mornings. It was here that Jordan introduced his first songs to the public and developed a desire for writing original compositions.
At 19, Jordan found himself connecting the dots between music and the positive impact it had on the social justice issues of the time. This prompted his enrolment in the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) discipleship training school in Montana, known for it’s high level music program. As part of this training Jordan served 2 months in New York City supporting the Salvation Army’s relief effort post 9/11. Upon his return home Jordan felt it time to release his first solo project. With the guidance of Canadian veterans Steve Bell and John Buller, he found a recording home at DeCapo Studios in Winnipeg. With producer Nolan Balzer at the helm he released his debut, self-titled EP.
Over the next handful of years, Jordan continued to pursue his music career as a worship leader, singer/songwriter and front-man to a rock n’roll band he formed with his brothers. Releasing 2 band projects and 2 solo albums over this time St.Cyr claims this part of the journey as his education. Performing in clubs, coffee houses, churches and youth groups revealed to him humanities deep desire for meaningful connection and the hope to find something more vibrant than our current reality. This revelation made it easy for Jordan to leap into Contemporary Christian music whole-heartedly knowing that he wasn't just pursuing a career rather a life calling.
Jordan’s current single In My Lifetime, co-produced by Ben Calhoun (frontman for Citizen Way) and Micah Kuiper (guitarist for Hawk Nelson) has garnered international attention, winning 1st place in the Nashville based Unsigned Only competition, judged by such artists as Bart Millard (Mercy Me), David Crowder (Crowder), and Aaron Schust. Jordan was the 2017 Nashville Rising Star winning songwriter and is currently touring across the US and Canada. He is married to his beautiful wife, Heather, and they have three amazing children, Aidan, Liam, and Willa.
